Media Planner

The Media Planner Acts as the principle strategist and account lead on an assigned client portfolio. Responsible for overall research and development of media plans for assigned clients across multiple channels (Traditional / Interactive / Social). Required to develop and maintain a solid understanding of the clients business and apply their media knowledge to deliver against the clients’ objectives. Client facing skills essential; experience in healthcare clients a plus!


  • Leads development of media plans across all channels, working with specialized activation teams in areas of traditional, digital and social media.
  • Leads team to develop, execute and monitor all media plans; creates and maintains flowcharts/plans including actualized budgets and timely invoices.
  • Studies demographic data and consumer profiles to identify desired target audiences for specific media vehicles, including lifestyles and psychographics, which can be used in developing media plans.
  • Coordinates the development of agency Point of Views (POV) and rationale on media opportunities for submission to the client.
  • Leads research for media planning, including: calling publications and other media to obtain information, requesting and reviewing media kits to obtain information, meeting with media representatives one-on-one, obtaining industry-specific information from trade associations, etc.
  • Researches and compiles competitive analysis to get a sense of where the competitors are advertising and how much they are spending.
  • Attends internal training, online conferences, seminars, travels to client locations.

Required Skills, Experience and Education: 

  • Proficient with industry tools and systems (MRI, Scarborough, Media Audit, SQAD, Nielsen, Arbitron, Strata, Advantage, eTelmar, Comscore)
  • Have strong understanding of media fundamentals including, media math, reach/frequency, consumer/market research, plan development, etc.
  • Proficient with computers, specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor's degree; degree or concentration in advertising, marketing or communications preferred
  • 3-5 Years’ experience in Media Planning or related agency experience,
